Tom Hickman - Masterworks and Recent Works

“The Masterworks”

A series of six remarkably detailed pictures, stitched by hand over a period of years, on different continents, on land and in the air, each taking around six months to complete.  The densely populated compositions all have roots in Biblical stories and were painstakingly fashioned in raised stump-work and a variety of stitching techniques

Other Recent Works

Inspired by scenes from his croft home in the Outer Hebrides, Hickman’s work forms part of the British Folk Art tradition and there is a delightfully uninhibited freedom about it. Unique and not influenced by training, nor bothered by concept, it is gloriously unexpected and joyous. In common with much of the best traditonal Folk Art these works make you smile. Stitched with bright colours, they are well observed, reductive, and yet have a quality of humour and childlike surprise, that Hickman feels is rarely found in formal or academic art.
