Condition: Of great graphic heart shape, the naturally formed root wood has been dug-out and carved to create a domestic bowl. The old birchwood surface shows signs of much use and wear, along with minor abrasions, shrinkage and movement to the timber. These natural heart shaped bowls are highly prized in the Swedish vernacular tradition and were often used at wedding ceremonies and offered as love tokens. This is a particularly pleasing and excitingly symmetrical example with excellent patination and a well burnished surface.
