This sign written Trade Sign is a wonderful survival as well as an intriguing piece of social history. The large architectural arch topped panel bears two generations of sign writing, the primary, first generation details now ghosting through the secondary. Built from three broad pine boards in classic arch top form with a moulded frame all round, there is evidence of shrinkage, 'crocodiling' ,oxidization and weathering of the historic paint surfaces, in fact everything we would hope to find in a piece of this age and nature. Great graphics, wonderful texture and indisputable provenance. This is pure Folk Art on a great scale, in wonderful original “as found” condition.
