9" high x 11" wide (framed)
A delightful small primitive watercolour drawing of a gable ended cottage, with a well detailed garden behind a fence and with a dog, a cat, topiary trees, flowers and even a person in the window. Signed and dated 1844, this is as much of social historical interest as it is a work of folk art and was very possibly created by the owner of the house. It is in excellent original condition, with no significant evidence of fading or staining and a delightful primitive example from the Victorian era.
Obscured historic hand written label to verso which reads: "Charles Small of Charr[...?] was Born in this House in the year of Our Lord 1794 and lived in it till the year 1850"
