Jack Jones, was labelled "The Welsh Lowry", although he was born poor and illegitimate in Haford, Swansea and claimed never to have seen Lowry's work. He was a self-taught and only began painting in his thirties and later said he would prefer to be known as "The Leonardo of the slag heap". His work is held by the National Collection at the Library of Wales and in celebrated private collections and has been shown at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea; The Calabi Gallery in Santa Rosa, CA; and the Martin Tinney Gallery Cardiff.
